Architectural monuments of Alicante

Nearly half a hundred monuments can be seen on the streets of the city

They are works that stand out for their historical, urban and symbolic, and sometimes go unnoticed and in other cases, revealing the city's cultural review.
When one walks the streets of the town, may not stop thinking about all the history that has accumulated Alicante. The Castillo de Santa Bárbara, the Castillo de San Fernando, the Monastery of the Holy Face and the Main Theater, are examples.
The Castle of Santa Barbara, named for King Alfonso X the Wise, after having taken on December 4, 1248 to the Arabs (the feast of Santa Barbara), consists of three levels.
The first level relates to the top of the castle. In the second area, is the hermitage of Santa Barbara, built in 1812. At the third level (the lowest) can find the sector built at the time of the Bourbons, the most current.
Surrounded by a park, he got up inside the Castle of San Fernando, without being completed for the War of Independence. Located in the hills of Tossal, was built in 1809 to defend the city during the French invasion.
A few kilometers from the city, we find the Monastery of the Holy Face. Anecdotally, it is worth noting that second chance was built in 1766, having previously demolished in 1748. The most precious object is a reliquary made of gold and silver, which is located behind the main altar, with various drawings alluding to the miracles of the Holy Face.
Finally, the Main Theatre was built in 1847, with the performance of the play "Guzmán el Bueno" of Antonio Gil de Zarate. Its facade is neoclassical, with six Doric columns supporting a triangular pediment.
